Hi! I’m Paul,
A mental health advocate & blogger
I was born and grew up in Stoke on Trent, England, the youngest of 5 brothers, to parents that both served in WW2. They were warm, hardworking, and energetic, but also had losses to deal with that many don’t suffer now, including their second born. Home life was vibrant and busy and what it lacked in money it made up for in activity and love, and pretty decent ethics and guidance.

I joined the cubs and scouts, and played rugby from an early age, although my interest in any physical activity was always keen, leading to a broad experience and some modest achievements, plus a number of visits to A&E. My interest in photography was sparked at an early age, probably around 11 years old, and probably by my Dad and Aunt who were keen photographers themselves. My interest took a leap forward recently when my son told me: “you don’t photograph things Dad, you photograph the light on those things”. A lightbulb moment for me and my perspective of capturing an image changed that day.

Photography was a massive passion of mine, but as I didn’t tell anyone that I would like to do this as a career, at 16 I did an engineering apprenticeship and worked in the tyre manufacturing industry, it was a ‘job for life’. My passions remained rugby, being outdoors, and photography, but with work I moved to Dundee at 24 years old, discovering that the area offered great opportunities to continue with my passions. Work was always technical and took me to many countries which included living and working in France for a period. I took early retirement at 58 and I continue to follow my interests.

I married in Dundee and have 2, now grown up, children and a grandchild. I was determined to enable my kids to discover and follow their passions, and both have been able to find colourful and rewarding personal and professional lives.

Reiki initially crossed my path nearly 30 years ago and helped me to deal with some difficult and stressful life and work challenges by giving clarity of thought and enabling calmness. Following this initial contact, I completed my Reiki 1 and Reiki 2 training, then went on to give Reiki to family and friends, although it did drift out of my life after ten years or so.

Following retirement, a couple of years ago, rather than it being a relaxing time, I found that the loss of sense of purpose and various personal challenges led me to a massive change in my life’s direction. In essence it led to a breakdown in my mental, emotional, and physical health and my marriage. I understand that this is not uncommon, but it has led to a personal, often uncomfortable journey of self-discovery, and a realisation that not all had been rosy in my life from an early age. I took formal couple and individual counselling on a number of occasions and also found significant relief in talking in an informal, non-judgmental, environment within Andy’s Man Club. At this time Reiki became prominent again in my life, and I discovered the benefits of meditation.

I have been practicing Reiki again for about 18 months now and in addition I have achieved qualifications in both Meditation and Life Coaching. These three components compliment each other beautifully in the realms of mental, emotional, spiritual and physical faculties, and have set up in practice in the Dundee and Angus areas.

My aim is to reach out to everyone with difficulties, with a vision to create an environment where they can come and find a place to be calm, receive Reiki, talk if they need to, and find a path forward that suits them. It is my deep belief that we all have the answers within us if we can be helped to find them, and that we can cope with everything that lands on our plate even if sometimes we need support to do that.
